An immersive audio drama celebrating 80 years of cultural exchange at the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut (DAI) Heidelberg. Blending archival history, storytelling, music, and sound design, the experience guides listeners through eight decades of encounters, ideas, and transatlantic dialogue.
To mark its 80th anniversary, the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut (DAI) Heidelberg commissioned a special exhibition exploring its history and impact across eight decades. As part of the exhibition, visitors were invited to experience the institution’s past through a two-part immersive audio drama designed to bring archival stories and historical moments to life.
Together with scriptwriter Tabea von Grünewaldt, the project transformed archival material into a narrative journey where sound became the primary storytelling device. Historical eras, changing social landscapes, and personal encounters were woven together through voices, music, ambience, and carefully crafted sonic transitions.
“Encountering Time” invites visitors to engage with the DAI archive in a unique way: not as a collection of documents, but as a living resonance space between past, present, and future.
