With the award-winning BlautopfVR you can explore this hidden world through a mystery adventure game. The Blautopf cave system is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena of Southern Germany. Until now, the caves have only been accessible to a small number of scientists.
Using photogrammetry, large sections of the cave were scanned and digitally reconstructed in high detail. Since on-site recording wasn’t possible, our team recreated every sound from scratch in the studio.
To accurately simulate the cave’s complex acoustics, we used ray tracing technology within the game engine. This allowed us to mimic how sound travels, reflects, and decays within each specific chamber, making every sound behave as it would in the real environment. By faithfully recreating this spatial depth and resonance, we gave the virtual cave its realistic feel, making the acoustic signature a central part of the experience.
