Climate change, environmental protection and sustainability dominate media and political affairs. The demand for increased use of public transport instead of cars is obvious. Beeing, a nature inspired VR journey, is intended to raise awareness of these topics and offers participants a momentary escape from the noisy train environment into a tranquil forest soundscape.Â
To create an immersive spatial audio experience for the train ride, we developed two formats: an ambisonics mix for 360° video platforms and an object-based version for the onboard Android player. Since visuals were created in Unreal Engine but implemented in Unity, we extracted positional data from Unreal and transferred it to our audio tools, allowing for precise spatial mixing without manual automation. Sound-emitting objects were virtually recreated in Unity, enabling dynamic rendering based on the train’s animation data. GPS and compass tracking synced playback to real-time movement, while layered ambisonics and headlocked music completed the immersive experience.
